The Top Sports Unit of the Finnish Olympic Committee has published the support decisions for summer sports for the year 2023. A total of EUR 4,037,080 in enhancement support was distributed to summer sports.
The criteria for the Top Sports Support Program are strict: the top sports system of the sport and the training of top athletes must not only be internationally competitive but also in continuous development, the resourcing of the sports association for top sports must be substantial and the result of all this must be a credible prospect of more than one Olympic or Paralympic medal.
Sailing has made the prospect of more medals come true concretely this year, when Sinem Kurtbay and Akseli Keskinen took both World Cup and European Championship medals and Kaarle Tapper took bronze in the open European Championship regatta. In addition, Monika Mikkola and the 49erFX duo Ronja Grönblom and Veera Hokka are within striking distance of the medal level.
